Chart on Political Freedom China vs India
The experience of many countries shows that democratization is proportional to the degree of economic development. But in the case of India and China, this is quite the reverse. China is more economically developed than India but ranks much lower in the degree of democratization. According to a ranking by Freedom House, a major US Human Rights Organization, on Political Rights and Civil Liberties, among 193 countries, China is ranked 178th and ‘not free’ while India is ranked 78th and free.
