Rural India has inadequate Public Health care Infrastructure
India has low per capita expenditure on health compared to other developing countries. The public health system in India is inefficient and ill equipped, unable to meet the needs to the increasing population, a large segment of which cannot afford the health care costs.
In the public health care system, there were 60 doctors and 83 nurses available per 1,00,000 population (2005). There has been an increase in hospitals, dispensaries and primary health clinics but the of distribution of doctors is highly polarised, with urban areas having higher concentration.
Expenditure on healthcare in India is expected to touch $14.2 billion by 2013, driven by private players.
