According to this report from the South Africa Medical research Council, stroke and heart diseases are the top ten killers of men and women in the country.
Stroke and heart attack together contributes to almost 50% of the reasons for death with heart disease being the top killer among men and stroke being the top killer among women above 65 years of age. 17.8% of men and 16.9% of women have been seen to die of heart attack. A high percentage of 18% women die of strokes. The other major reasons of death are pulmonary diseases, tuberculosis, diabetes, asthma and cancer.
