Victoria Memorial, Kolkata
Year of Completion: 1921
Situated in the middle of a sprawling park, Victoria Memorial was built in memory of Queen Victoria who ruled India from 1876 to 1901. The building at present serves as a museum and exhibits the throne of Shah Jahan and the royal gown of Queen Elizabeth I among other things. Built in the Italian Renaissance style by architect Sir William Emerson, the edifice was constructed almost entirely in white marble, is 338 feet in length and 228 feet in breadth.
