Quality and mobility issues affect supply of employable graduates in China

McKinsey Global Institute’s assessment of Chinese graduates indicates that China faces a talent shortage as most of its graduates cannot be employed by services based multinational companies. Even though China is the world’s manufacturing hub due availability of huge low cost manpower, it needs to improve quality of its graduates to match the service industry requirements. The study also highlights mobility related factors that impact the Chinese knowledge worker supply – lack of mobility within the country due to its policy controls and 70% graduates are widely dispersed and have poor access to an international airport. On the other hand, Indian graduates have higher mobility.
