India to increase nuclear power generation capacity

Nuclear power continues to be a controversial option owing to security and health safety issues. IEO 2009 projects nuclear power use to increase from 2.7 trillion kilowatt hours in 2006 to 3.8 trillion kilowatt hours in 2030.

China, India and Russia are expected to increase capacities by 47,17 and 21 gigawatts respectively by 2030. Several OECD countries will go for capacity augmentation and non OECD Eurasia nuclear plants are expected to be given operating extensions.
