Coal and Natural Gas will remain dominant electricity generation fuels until 2030

Electricity generation will increase by 77% from 2006 to 2030 (31.8 trillion kwH). Electricity generation will grow by 3.5 % in non OECD regions compared to 1.2% in OECD regions.

Coal and natural gas will remain the main source of fuel (64%) for electricity generation. However, renewable energy sources are growing at 2.9% per annum, dominated by hydroelectric and wind power. Electricity generation by nuclear power is also projected to increase to 3.8 trillion kilowatthours by 2030 from 2.7 trillion kilowatthours (2006).
