Coal and Natural Gas will remain dominant electricity generation fuels until 2030
Electricity generation will increase by 77% from 2006 to 2030 (31.8 trillion kwH). Electricity generation will grow by 3.5 % in non OECD regions compared to 1.2% in OECD regions.
Coal and natural gas will remain the main source of fuel (64%) for electricity generation. However, renewable energy sources are growing at 2.9% per annum, dominated by hydroelectric and wind power. Electricity generation by nuclear power is also projected to increase to 3.8 trillion kilowatt hours by 2030 from 2.7 trillion kilowatt hours (2006).
