India has one of the world’s largest programs for renewable energy. A lot of focus of the government is towards providing schemes for generating electricity in India through clean means. One of the most favored modes is generation of electricity by means of harnessing solar energy.

With about 300 sunny days in a year India has one of the best potentials world wide to harness this solar energy. If one calculates the potential to generate electricity based on the land area covered, it works out to about 5000 trillion KWh/year. If it is possible to even account for a fraction of this value, a lot of India’s power sectors shortages would be taken care of.

Advantages of Solar Power:-

  • It is a clean Renewable source of energy
  • No emissions, by products as compared to other power plants
  • Small scale/local level applications possible
  • Free availability of the  energy source
  • No transportation/storage cost
  • Low maintenance costs

Barriers for Solar Power:-

  • Large tracts of land required to generate grid-level electricity
  • High cost of solar panels/ photovoltaic cells
  • Slow progress in development of technology in India

Today the amount of electricity generated in India by solar power is merely 0.4%. The amount of Solar energy going to the grid is only about 2.12 MW. The Power Sector has not actively taken up the cause of generating electricity using solar energy. Also if one has a look at up-coming power plant projects, plants generating electricity using solar energy as conspicuously missing. However the government of India has announced a Solar Mission under the National Action Plan on Climate Change to generate about 1000 MW of electricity in India by means of solar energy.

I love this write up that you wrote on the site i wouldn’t mind if i can be posted via my website often about the development of the issue of solar as a means of electricity. Because i want to associate with you so as to start the business in my country
